FAQs
How do I join Next Gen Pediatricians?
If you are a current 4th-year medical student applying to categorical or combined pediatric programs (i.e. internal medicine - pediatrics, triple board, child neurology) AND identify as URiM*, please click the link here. Once signed up, we will verify your submission, and you will then be added to our listserv to receive announcements and Zoom links for our virtual sessions.
*We define URiM as Black, Latinx, Native American, Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian, and/or other pacific islander.
We are committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for applicants, and our programming is reserved for individuals who identify as URiM (Underrepresented in Medicine). If you are applying to residency this cycle and do not meet the eligibility criteria for NGP, we recommend visiting the Future Peds Res website. Their website offers a variety of resources, including region-specific residency program information, and they host seminars throughout the recruitment cycle.
What if I don’t identify as URiM?
What if I am not applying this cycle?
We currently only have the capacity to provide formal mentorship to current residency applicants. In the future, we hope to expand our mentorship initiatives for medical students who have declared an early interest in the field of pediatrics. If you have a specific question related to pediatrics or need help being connected with someone in the field, please email us so we can determine how best to assist you.
How do I sign up as a mentor to support the NGP mission?
For Residents/Fellows/Junior Faculty Members: Thank you for your interest in supporting the development of future pediatricians. Please email our mentorship team at urmpedsmentoring@gmail.com, and we will keep a record of your interest and contact you during our annual mentor–mentee matching process. Please keep in mind that we usually have a surplus of mentors compared to mentees (i.e. residency applicants), and pairing with a mentor during the application cycle is not guaranteed.
What are other ways I can help support the mission of NGP?
Sharing information about NGP within your professional network is one of the most effective ways to support our mission. We welcome financial contributions and remain open to continued support. Funds support daily operations, including website maintenance and recruitment at specific URiM conferences. We award a limited number of mini-grants to applicants who have successfully matched to support their transition to residency. If you are interested in contributing to our cause financially, please do not hesitate to reach out to us via email at nextgenpediatricians@gmail.com.
