About Us

Where we came from and where we are going

Next Gen Pediatricians (NGP) is a mentorship program geared towards providing guidance, support, and networking to fourth-year medical students from backgrounds that are underrepresented in medicine (URiM) applying to Pediatric and Pediatric-Combined residency programs.

Our Mission

*We define URiM as Black, Latinx, Native American, Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian, and/or other pacific islander.

Our Beginning

NGP was founded in 2020 by a group of pediatric residents and fellows to mentor Black and Brown medical students entering pediatric and combined-pediatric residency programs.

Motivated by the mentorship gaps we witnessed during the COVID-19 pandemic, we aimed to support students from across the USA and the Caribbean through the residency application process with a 99% match rate. Since 2020, our program has expanded to help URiM applicants worldwide.

We are still a long way from equitable representation of Black and Brown physicians in medicine. Programs like ours are necessary to keep moving things forward.

To the underrepresented students in medicine with big dreams of becoming pediatricians, we see you, and we are always here to help.
